Description

Champagne Marguet Ambonnay Grand Cru 2018 Magnum is a striking grower Champagne from prized Grand Cru parcels north of Ambonnay, offering a pure and expressive take on one of the region’s most respected terroirs. Crafted with low intervention and a near-zero-dosage approach, it delivers impressive precision, depth, and personality in magnum format. The result is a Champagne that reflects both Marguet’s modern philosophy and the historic pedigree of Ambonnay.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a fine, persistent mousse and a bright, vibrant profile that hints at its freshness and tension. The nose is lively and aromatic, with notes of ripe orchard fruit, crisp apple, light bitter grapefruit, and candied citrus layered over subtle autolytic complexity. The palate is bone-dry, focused, and energetic, with a firm, direct style that highlights the mineral character of Ambonnay. There is plenty of fruit concentration, but the wine remains taut and structured, with excellent freshness and the potential to evolve gracefully over the coming years.

Production
Sourced from the Marguet family’s Grand Cru parcels north of Ambonnay, this Champagne is made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown in one of Champagne’s most celebrated terroirs. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in used Bordeaux barrels and egg-shaped Taransaud foudres, with malolactic fermentation encouraged when it occurs naturally. The wine then spends time sur lie until July following harvest, before bottling with organic sugar and a small amount of yeast for a secondary fermentation of at least 42 months, finishing with no or only minimal dosage.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for oysters, sashimi, seafood crudo, roast chicken, or refined dishes with creamy sauces, where its dryness and tension can cut through richness beautifully. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and consider a brief decant only if you want to soften its more incisive early edge and allow the aromas to open up.
