Description
Champagne Jacquesson Cuvée No. 746 is a refined, terroir-driven Champagne built on the 2018 harvest, with a blend led by Chardonnay and supported by Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It captures the house’s signature style: precise, mineral, and ultra-dry, yet with a distinctive rounded softness that comes from exceptionally ripe fruit and careful winemaking. A modern release with real depth and aging potential, it reflects Jacquesson’s long-standing reputation for characterful, small-production Champagne.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Cuvée No. 746 shows a bright, elegant pale gold hue with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with citrus zest, green apple, white peach, fresh brioche, and chalky mineral notes, gradually revealing more depth with air: almond, pear, and subtle floral nuances.
The palate is crisp and energetic, with a linear, saline backbone and a very dry finish that never feels severe. The Chardonnay brings precision and freshness, while the Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier add texture, length, and gentle fruit weight. Thanks to its structure and reserve wine component, this cuvée has strong aging potential and should develop beautifully over the next several years, gaining complexity and creaminess.
Production
Cuvée No. 746 is based primarily on the 2018 vintage, with around 68% of the fruit coming from Aÿ, Dizy, and Hautvillers in the Vallée de la Marne, and 32% from Avize and Oiry in the Côte des Blancs, complemented by reserve wines from older vintages. The grapes were carefully hand-harvested after a strict sorting process, following spring frost that reduced yields but left the remaining fruit highly ripe and healthy. Vinification is carried out with precise pressing and spontaneous fermentation in large oak casks, followed by more than three years of lees aging before disgorgement.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is an excellent match for oysters, scallops, sashimi, ceviche, roast poultry, or delicately prepared white fish, where its mineral tension and fine mousse can shine. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses and lightly salted dishes. Serve chilled, ideally at 8–10°C, and consider a short decant or a few minutes in the glass if you want the wine’s layers to open further.
Producer
Champagne Jacquesson is one of Champagne’s most respected artisanal houses, known for its focus on terroir, precision, and limited-production cuvées. Based in the Marne Valley, the producer has built a strong reputation for expressive, vintage-based Champagnes that prioritize vineyard character over overt dosage or house sweetness. Its numbered cuvées have become particularly admired among Champagne enthusiasts for their consistency, transparency, and aging ability.
