Description

Henri Giraud Brut Nature Cuvée Esprit is a striking introduction to one of Champagne’s most distinctive houses: a pure, deep, and proudly uncompromising expression of Grand Cru fruit. Built around Pinot Noir from Aÿ and nearby Grand Cru villages, it captures Henri Giraud’s signature style of natural balance, layered complexity, and low-intervention winemaking.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the refined, luminous character you want from a Brut Nature Champagne, with a fine mousse and a fresh, elegant presence. The nose opens with red apple, dried citrus peel, brioche, fresh hazelnut, and a subtle flinty mineral edge, all framed by a gentle toastiness from oak aging. The palate is dry, vinous, and complex, with brisk acidity, textured depth, and a long, saline finish that keeps everything feeling precise and energetic. Although delicious now, it has the structure and concentration to develop further over several years, gaining even more nuance and depth in bottle.

Production
This cuvée is driven by Pinot Noir from Aÿ and other nearby Grand Cru sites, with a smaller proportion of Chardonnay to bring lift and balance. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels made from Argonne forest wood, selected and crafted specifically for Henri Giraud, adding a subtle spice and texture without overpowering the fruit. The wine does not undergo malolactic conversion and is made with minimal intervention, with no dosage or only a very small amount depending on the batch, allowing the terroir and house style to remain front and center.

Food & Serving
A versatile Champagne for the table, it works beautifully as an aperitif as well as with seafood, shellfish, poultry, and dishes with mushrooms or butter-rich sauces. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and consider a brief decant only if you want to soften its more reductive, mineral edges and let the aromas open more quickly.

Producer
Henri Giraud is one of Champagne’s most respected grower-producers, known for its innovative approach, Grand Cru vineyards in Aÿ, and deep commitment to sustainability. The house has built a strong reputation for combining tradition with craftsmanship, especially through its use of oak from the Argonne forest and a cellar philosophy that favors precision and authenticity. Today, Henri Giraud is recognized for producing some of the region’s most characterful and terroir-driven Champagnes.
