Description
Champagne Gosset Grande Réserve Brut is a beautifully composed non-vintage Champagne from one of the oldest houses in Champagne, founded in 1584 in Aÿ. It combines the elegance of Chardonnay, the structure of Pinot Noir, and the roundness of Pinot Meunier, all shaped in Gosset’s signature style of freshness, precision, and restraint.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a refined golden hue with a lively, persistent mousse. The nose is expressive yet poised, with generous fruit aromas lifted by fresh, invigorating notes and a distinctly classical Champagne character.
On the palate, the attack is creamy and supple, followed by a clear sense of structure and bright, natural fruit. The decision to avoid malolactic fermentation preserves freshness and tension, while a minimum of three years’ cellar aging adds depth and finesse. It is a Champagne with excellent balance and strong drinking appeal now, though it will hold well over the near term.
Production
The cuvée is sourced primarily from top-rated cru villages in Champagne, including Aÿ, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Villers-Marmery, with Gosset selecting only high-quality fruit from the Marne district. The wine is made without malolactic fermentation to preserve acidity and primary fruit character, then aged in the cellars for at least three years before disgorgement. Dosage is kept relatively moderate at 8 g/L, helping maintain its dry, precise style.
Food & Serving
An excellent aperitif, this Champagne also pairs well with tapas, poultry dishes, shellfish, crayfish, and seafood. It is especially nice alongside aged cheeses such as Comté or Parmesan. Serve well chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and decanting is not recommended for this style of Champagne.
Producer
Champagne Gosset dates back to 1584, making it the oldest wine house in Champagne, with origins in Aÿ as a producer of still wines before the region fully embraced sparkling wine. Today, Gosset is widely respected for crafting wines with purity, freshness, and a distinctly traditional profile. Grande Réserve Brut stands as the house signature and a benchmark expression of its style, earning strong praise from wine critics over the years.
