Cesconi Pivier 2010 is a deeply refined red from the dramatic slopes of Trentino-Alto Adige, bottled under the Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT. Primarily Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, it captures the balance between alpine freshness and Mediterranean ripeness that defines this corner of northern Italy. Tasting Notes
In the glass, Pivier 2010 shows a deep, vibrant ruby red hue with subtle garnet reflections at the rim, revealing its evolution while retaining plenty of colour intensity. The nose is layered and complex, with aromas of ripe black cherries and cassis intertwined with cedar, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate and a gentle hint of dried herbs and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet graceful, with silky, polished tannins and a lively, refreshing acidity that keeps the rich fruit in perfect balance. Flavours of blackcurrant, plum and morello cherry unfold into notes of cocoa, sweet spices, cedar and a touch of earthiness that speaks of its alpine terroir. The oak is finely integrated, adding structure rather than weight, and the finish is long and persistent with lingering spice and mineral undertones. Well stored bottles still have a solid aging potential of a further 8–10 years, evolving toward more tertiary notes of leather, cigar box and dried fruit.

Production
The Pivier vineyard lies on south-facing slopes in Trentino-Alto Adige, where the Dolomites create a cool but sunny microclimate with strong diurnal temperature differences. The soils are composed of calcareous clay with stony deposits, giving both ripeness and a marked mineral backbone to the grapes. Cesconi farm these sites using sustainable, low-intervention practices, and the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are harvested manually at optimal ripeness to ensure careful selection in the vineyard. After a traditional fermentation with gentle extraction to preserve elegance, the wine is aged for around 18 months in French oak barriques (a mix of new and used), followed by extended bottle maturation before release to harmonise structure, tannins and aromatics.

Food & Serving
Pivier 2010 is an excellent partner for grilled or roasted red meats such as ribeye steak, lamb chops or tagliata, as well as game dishes like venison or wild boar. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses, truffle dishes and rich mushroom-based recipes that echo its earthy, savoury nuances. Serve at around 16 °C, ideally after 1–2 hours of decanting to allow the bouquet to fully open and the tannins to soften. Use large Bordeaux-style glasses to highlight both the wine’s aromatic complexity and its refined structure.
