Canalicchio di Sopra Rosso di Montalcino 2020 is a refined and expressive take on Sangiovese from one of Montalcino’s most respected estates. Made from the youngest vineyards of the property, it combines freshness, structure and silky tannins in a style that captures both the energy of youth and the hallmark depth of the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby color that hints at its youthful character. The nose is lively and fragrant, with red cherry, wild berries, subtle floral tones and a touch of spice, all wrapped in the savory elegance typical of Montalcino Sangiovese. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with juicy fruit, fresh acidity and finely textured tannins. There is real concentration here, but also a supple, drinkable charm that makes the wine immediately appealing. While enjoyable now, it has the structure to develop gracefully over the next few years, gaining more complexity and nuance with time.

Production
The vines are planted in two distinct Montalcino sites, Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli, at around 300 meters above sea level, where differing soils and exposures give the wine its layered personality. Grapes are harvested entirely by hand, then fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures with daily pumping over, followed by 15 to 20 days of skin maceration and 12 months of aging in Slavonian oak casks and French oak barrels.

Food & Serving
This Rosso di Montalcino is a natural match for pasta with meat sauces, hearty soups, roasted or grilled meats, and mature cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C; decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open up the wine’s aromas and soften its tannins.
