Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the deep ruby-garnet hues typical of Brunello, with a youthful brightness that hints at its cellaring potential. The nose is layered and expressive, opening with ripe red cherry, wild berries, and dried roses, followed by notes of spice, tobacco, leather, and subtle earthy undertones. On the palate, the wine is structured and focused, with firm yet polished tannins and lively acidity that bring balance and length. Flavors of sour cherry, plum, savory herbs, and mineral nuances unfold gradually, leading to a persistent, elegant finish. This is a wine built for aging and will continue to develop complexity over the next 10 to 15 years, or longer in a good cellar.

Production
The grapes come from two distinct sites in Montalcino—Canalicchio di Sopra and Le Gode di Montosoli—where differences in exposure and soil composition create nuanced expressions of Sangiovese. The estate’s vineyards benefit from the northern position in Montalcino, which generally supports freshness, aromatic precision, and balance. Harvesting is done with great care, and the wines are vinified using a combination of modern technology and traditional methods to preserve the purity of the fruit and the identity of the terroir.

Food & Serving
Serve this Brunello at 16–18°C, ideally after decanting for 1 to 2 hours to allow the aromas and structure to fully open. It pairs beautifully with braised beef, roasted lamb, game, truffle dishes, and mature cheeses, as well as rich Tuscan-style pasta with meat sauces.

Azienda Agricola Canalicchio di Sopra was founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and has remained a family-driven estate for three generations. Located in the northern part of Montalcino, the winery manages 60 hectares of land, including 15 hectares of vineyards and 2 hectares of olive groves. Known for combining advanced cellar techniques with respect for old traditions and the natural environment, Canalicchio di Sopra has earned a respected place among Brunello producers in the region.
