Description

Ca’ del Bosco Franciacorta Brut 2014 is a refined, traditionally crafted sparkling wine from Lombardy’s renowned Franciacorta DOCG. Predominantly Chardonnay, with supporting roles from Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco, it delivers a balance of finesse, depth and lively freshness. From a cooler vintage that favoured aromatic intensity and crisp acidity, this Brut stands out as a poised, ageworthy alternative to top Champagne, rooted firmly in Italian terroir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2014 shows a bright, luminous straw-yellow colour with fine, persistent bubbles forming an elegant, creamy mousse. The nose is inviting and layered: ripe lemon and grapefruit, green apple and pear, intertwined with white flowers, hints of brioche, toasted hazelnuts and a gentle mineral note. On the palate, the wine is taut yet generous, with a precise, vibrant acidity that reflects the cool 2014 vintage. The mousse is fine-textured and delicate, wrapping around flavours of citrus, crunchy orchard fruits, a touch of stone fruit and a subtle creaminess from long lees aging. Notes of toast, roasted nuts and wet stone linger in a long, clean, saline finish. Enjoyable now for its energy and definition, it has the structure and acidity to develop further complexity over the next 5–7 years, gaining more brioche, honeyed and nutty nuances with careful cellaring.

Production
The fruit for Ca’ del Bosco Franciacorta Brut 2014 is sourced from multiple parcels in Franciacorta, rooted in limestone- and mineral-rich moraine soils that lend structure, tension and a distinct mineral edge to the wine. Sustainable vineyard practices ensure healthy, balanced grapes, which are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness. After a gentle pressing in an oxygen-free environment to preserve purity and aromatics, the must ferments partly in small oak barrels and partly in stainless steel tanks, adding both texture and freshness. The base wines are then blended and undergo secondary fermentation in bottle (metodo classico), followed by a lengthy 25 months of aging on the lees, which builds creaminess, fine bubbles and complex autolytic notes before disgorgement and release.

Food & Serving
This Franciacorta Brut is an excellent and versatile choice as an aperitif, but it truly shines at the table. Pair it with oysters, shrimp, scallops, sushi and delicate white fish, or enjoy it alongside light poultry dishes, veal carpaccio, vegetable tempura and soft cheeses such as young goat’s cheese or fresh mozzarella. Serve well-chilled at 8–10 °C to highlight its precision and freshness. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle a few minutes before serving and using fine, tulip-shaped sparkling wine glasses will allow the aromas and mousse to express themselves fully.

Producer
Ca’ del Bosco is one of the benchmark producers of Franciacorta and a driving force behind the region’s rise as Italy’s premier source of metodo classico sparkling wines. Founded in the late 1960s in the rolling hills of Lombardy, the estate has become synonymous with meticulous vineyard work, innovative cellar techniques and a relentless pursuit of quality. Their commitment to sustainable practices and precision—from hand-harvesting to gentle, oxygen-free pressing and extended lees aging—has earned Ca’ del Bosco international acclaim and a reputation as a serious rival to many top Champagne houses, firmly establishing them as a reference point for fine sparkling wine in Italy and beyond.
