Description
Ca’ del Bosco Curtefranca 2015 is a refined Chardonnay from the gentle hills of Franciacorta in Lombardy, crafted by one of Italy’s most acclaimed producers. Sourced from carefully selected parcels on chalky, moraine-rich soils, it combines vibrant freshness with layered complexity. Framed by a warm but balanced 2015 vintage, this Curtefranca offers a sophisticated alternative to both classic white Burgundy and traditional Italian whites.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Curtefranca 2015 shows a luminous straw-yellow hue with subtle golden reflections, hinting at both ripeness and time on the lees. The nose opens with pure, lifted notes of lemon zest, green apple and crisp pear, followed by nuances of white blossom and a fine mineral edge. With a little air, gentle aromas of toast, vanilla and hazelnut emerge from the partial oak aging, adding depth without overwhelming the fruit.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a striking balance between richness and tension. A lively, citrus-driven acidity cuts through the creamy, almost silky texture created by eight months of sur lie aging and bâtonnage. Flavors of ripe orchard fruit, lemon curd and a touch of stone fruit are interwoven with discreet oak spice and a chalky, saline finish. The aftertaste is long and elegant, leaving notes of toasted nuts and wet stone. Enjoyable now, it has aging potential for a further 4–6 years, during which more honeyed, nutty and tertiary characteristics will develop while the structure remains fresh.
Production
The Chardonnay for Curtefranca 2015 comes from Ca’ del Bosco’s sustainably farmed vineyards in Franciacorta, where vines grow on glacial moraine soils rich in limestone and stones, contributing to the wine’s marked mineral backbone. Grapes are harvested by hand into small crates to preserve their integrity, then brought swiftly to the cellar for gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place partly in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks to preserve purity and tension, and partly in French oak barrels to add complexity and texture. The wine then matures for around eight months on its lees in both steel and oak, with regular bâtonnage to enhance mouthfeel and aromatic depth, before bottling and a further period of bottle aging prior to release.
Food & Serving
Curtefranca 2015 is a versatile gastronomic white that shines alongside grilled or baked fish, shellfish, and refined seafood dishes such as seared scallops or langoustines. Its creamy texture and balanced acidity also make it a superb match for rich, sauce-based preparations like lobster pasta, risotto with seafood, creamy poultry dishes, or roast chicken in a light cream or mushroom sauce. Serve well-chilled but not cold, ideally at 10–12 °C, to allow the aromatic complexity to unfold. A brief decant of 15–30 minutes, especially as the wine gains age, can help open up the more subtle nutty and toasty notes.
