Description
Burmester Vintage Port 2011 is a классic expression of Porto DOP, showing the depth, freshness and elegance that have made the house a respected name for generations. Crafted from traditional Douro grapes and sourced from steep hillside vineyards, it combines concentration with finesse in a style that feels both powerful and refined.
Tasting Notes
Deep in colour with a vivid purple hue, this Vintage Port opens with a delicate yet expressive nose of red fruits, blackcurrant and a subtle hint of raisins. On the palate, the fruit becomes even more prominent, supported by a fresh, generous structure and elegant tannins.
It is complex, expressive and finishes with impressive length, leaving a layered, fruit-driven impression. While already very appealing, it should continue to develop beautifully over time, gaining further nuance and harmony with careful ageing.
Production
The wine is made from a traditional blend of Douro grape varieties grown on rocky granite soils in vineyards planted on steep slopes reaching up to 600 metres in altitude. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness and then destemmed before vinification, preserving purity and balance while highlighting the character of the vintage and terroir.
Food & Serving
Serve with rich chocolate desserts, blue cheese or hard cheeses to complement its depth and sweetness. It can also be enjoyed on its own or with a fine cigar. Best served slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C, and decanting is recommended to separate any natural sediment and allow the wine to fully open.
Producer
Burmester takes its name from the German word "Burgmeester" and traces its roots back to the family’s move from Mölln in northern Germany. Founded in London in 1730 by Henry Burmester and John Nash, the business later relocated to Vila Nova de Gaia in 1750, where it began shipping Port to the British Isles and across Europe. The house built a strong reputation in London, and its legacy remains visible today in Wimbledon’s Burmester Road, reflecting the historical importance of the family’s commercial and financial activity.
