Description
Burmester Colheita Porto 1975 is a beautifully matured single-harvest Port that shows the elegance and depth for which the house is known. Aged in cask for decades, it combines rich concentration with finesse, offering a classic expression of Porto DOP from one of the Douro’s historic names.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a lovely amber-gold color with a polished, mahogany-tinged edge. The bouquet is layered and inviting, with notes of dried fruit, candied orange peel, warm spice, and a subtle oxidative complexity that speaks to long ageing in wood.
The palate is creamy and velvety, with impressive fullness and a supple, developed texture. Flavors of fig, caramelised citrus, toasted nuts, and gentle spice unfold into a long, persistent finish. It is already beautifully evolved and ready to enjoy now, though it will hold well for further time in bottle.
Production
Made from traditional Douro grape varieties grown on steep vineyard slopes reaching up to 600 meters above sea level, this Colheita comes from stony granite soils that lend structure and freshness. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and then destemmed before vinification, preserving the precision and balance needed for long cask ageing.
Food & Serving
Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 12–14°C, to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. It pairs especially well with chocolate desserts, caramel-based sweets, dried fruit tarts, and mature cheeses; decanting is usually not necessary, though a short rest after opening can help the wine open beautifully in the glass.
Producer
Burmester is one of Porto’s historic Port houses, founded in London in 1730 by Henry Burmester and John Nash before relocating to Vila Nova de Gaia in 1750. With roots in both British and Portuguese trade, the house became well known for its export of Port to the British Isles and across Europe, and it remains respected for producing refined, classically styled Ports with strong heritage and international recognition.
