Description

Burmester Porto Colheita 1967 is a beautifully matured tawny Port that shows the house’s long tradition of crafting elegant fortified wines from the Douro. With its 1967 vintage character, layered complexity, and refined sweetness, it stands out as a superb choice for collectors and lovers of classic Portuguese Port.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it displays an attractive amber-tawny color that hints at its long aging in wood. The nose is expressive and inviting, with aromas of dried fruit, candied orange peel, and a delicate spicy nuance. On the palate, it is creamy and velvety, with a full body and a wonderfully developed profile that feels both polished and generous. The finish is long and alluring, carrying warm notes of fruit and spice that linger beautifully. As a Colheita, it is already fully evolved and ready to enjoy now, though it will remain graceful in bottle for a long time.

Production
This Colheita is made from traditional Douro grape varieties grown on steep vineyard slopes reaching up to 600 meters above sea level. The soils are stony and granite-rich, helping to shape the wine’s structure, freshness, and aromatic precision. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and then fully destemmed before vinification, reflecting a careful approach focused on quality and balance.

Food & Serving
Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 12–16°C, to best highlight its aromatic depth and silky texture. It is a natural match for chocolate desserts, caramel-based sweets, and a wide range of cheeses, especially hard or blue-veined varieties. Decanting is generally not necessary, but opening it a little before serving can help the aromas fully unfold.

Producer
Burmester traces its roots back to Henry Burmester and John Nash, who founded a grain trading business in London in 1730 before moving operations to Vila Nova de Gaia in 1750 to trade Port wine to Britain and across Europe. The family’s name, derived from the German word for mayor, became closely linked with commerce and finance in London, even lending its name to Burmester Road in Wimbledon. Today, Burmester is recognized as one of the historic Port houses of the Douro, admired for its long legacy and consistent quality.
