Description

Bruno Rocca Barbaresco Marcorino 2022 is a poised and fragrant expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barbaresco’s most respected family estates. Sourced from the Marcorino vineyard, this wine captures the elegant, red‑fruited side of Barbaresco while still delivering the structure and depth that collectors look for. In the glass it offers a modern, polished interpretation of a classic terroir, shaped by meticulous vineyard work and sensitive cellar craft.

Tasting Notes
In appearance, the 2022 Marcorino shows a luminous garnet core with delicate brick hues at the rim, typical of Nebbiolo even in its youth. The nose is immediately expressive: wild cherries, ripe raspberry and pomegranate are layered with dried rose petals, violet, blood orange peel and hints of sweet spice, anise and subtle cedar. With air, more savoury notes emerge—tea leaves, crushed herbs and a gentle, earthy minerality. On the palate, the wine is medium‑bodied yet intense, with finely etched tannins that are firm but silkier than many Barolos, in true Barbaresco style. Juicy red berry fruit and Morello cherry are supported by a vibrant, mouth‑watering acidity that keeps the wine energetic and precise. Hints of balsamic, tobacco leaf and sandalwood add complexity on the long, graceful finish. The 2022 vintage shows approachable fruit in its youth, but the structure and balance suggest an aging potential of 8–15 years, gradually developing more truffle, forest floor and dried floral notes over time.

Production
Marcorino is a hillside site in the Barbaresco area of Piedmont, where Nebbiolo thrives on calcareous clay and marl soils that lend both perfume and tension to the wine. Bruno Rocca farms these vineyards with an emphasis on low yields, hand‑tending the vines and harvesting by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe bunches are selected. In the cellar, the grapes are gently destemmed and fermented in temperature‑controlled tanks, with careful maceration to extract fine tannins rather than harsh grip. The wine is then aged in oak—typically a mix of barriques and larger casks—to refine structure and add subtle spice, without overpowering the vineyard character, before resting in bottle prior to release.

Food & Serving
Bruno Rocca Barbaresco Marcorino 2022 is a natural match for classic Piedmontese dishes such as tajarin pasta with ragù, brasato al Barolo, veal shank or vitello tonnato. It also pairs beautifully with truffle‑infused dishes, mushroom risotto, roasted game birds, duck, lamb and hard cheeses like aged Parmigiano Reggiano or Pecorino. Serve at 16–18 °C (60–64 °F) in large Burgundy‑style stems to allow the aromatics to fully unfold. Young bottles will benefit from 1–2 hours of decanting to soften the tannins and open the bouquet; older bottles should be handled gently and decanted only briefly to separate from sediment.

Producer
The Bruno Rocca estate, based in the famed Rabajà area of Barbaresco, has become one of the benchmark names in the appellation. The Rocca family has farmed these hills for generations, but it was Bruno who, from the late 1970s onwards, transformed the estate into a reference point for refined, terroir‑driven Nebbiolo. Today, the winery is known for its meticulous vineyard work, low yields and precise, contemporary winemaking that highlights individual crus such as Rabajà and Marcorino. Consistently highly rated by international critics and sommeliers, Bruno Rocca has helped cement Barbaresco’s reputation as one of the world’s great sources of age‑worthy, elegant red wines.
