Classic Vosne aromas of exotic spice – star anise, clove and a touch of sandalwood – emerge with air, supported by subtle hints of forest floor, fine tobacco and crushed limestone. On the palate, the wine is precise yet silken, with a refined, medium-bodied frame that carries impressive intensity. Juicy red and black cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry are layered over a core of mineral tension, framed by ultra-fine, chalky tannins. The oak is beautifully integrated, offering discreet notes of toasted spice and cocoa without overshadowing the vibrant fruit. Acidity is fresh and finely tuned, giving the wine lift and length, while the finish is long, saline and subtly spicy, promising excellent development. Production
Les Beaux Monts sits on the mid-slope of Vosne-Romanée, just above Echézeaux, benefiting from a prized south-south-east exposure that ensures long sun exposure and excellent air circulation. The soils are a mix of rötlich- to ochre-tinged clay and coarse-grained limestone, giving both power and a distinctive, stony minerality to the wine. The vines here were planted after the Second World War from a sélection massale, meaning they derive from a diverse set of old Pinot Noir vine cuttings rather than clonal material; today they are more than 60 years old, naturally low-yielding and deeply rooted. Domaine Bruno Clavelier farms this parcel organically, with meticulous work in the vineyards and manual harvesting to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy bunches are brought to the cellar. Vinification is traditional and sensitive: gentle extraction, a thoughtful use of whole clusters depending on the vintage conditions, and indigenous yeast fermentations allow the terroir to speak. Aging typically takes place in French oak barrels, with a judicious proportion of new wood, to refine the tannins and add subtle complexity without masking the wine’s finesse.
