Description

Bruno Clavelier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux Bio 2021 is a beautifully poised, organically farmed Burgundy that captures the muscular elegance of Gevrey in a cooler, finely etched vintage. Sourced from the premier cru Les Corbeaux, just below the famous Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, this Pinot Noir offers both depth and striking finesse. Certified organic and crafted with a decidedly artisanal touch, it’s a bottle for Burgundy lovers who value purity, terroir definition, and traditional craftsmanship.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Les Corbeaux shows a vibrant, medium ruby color with a translucent rim, typical of finely structured Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits. The nose is refined yet expressive, opening with wild red berries, crushed raspberries, and morello cherries, followed by hints of rose petal, violets, and subtle spice. With some air, darker undertones of blackcurrant, damp earth, graphite, and a whisper of smoky mineral emerge, speaking clearly of its Gevrey origins. On the palate, this wine is precise and linear rather than broad, reflecting the cooler 2021 vintage: juicy red and black cherry fruit is framed by taut acidity and finely woven, chalky tannins. There is a distinct mineral backbone—almost saline—running through the mid-palate, complemented by notes of forest floor, black tea, and delicate oak seasoning. The finish is long, fresh, and savory, with lingering red fruits and spice. Enjoyable in youth after some aeration for its aromatic lift and energy, it also has the structure to develop more complexity over the next 8–12 years, gaining further nuance of sous-bois, truffle, and game.

Production
Les Corbeaux is a well-situated premier cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, on stony, limestone-rich soils with a mix of clay and small pebbles that ensure excellent drainage and naturally low yields. Domaine Bruno Clavelier farms this plot organically (certified Bio), using old vines, careful canopy management, and low-intervention practices to preserve biodiversity and terroir expression. Harvest is carried out by hand, with strict sorting to retain only perfectly ripe and healthy bunches. In the cellar, Clavelier favors gentle vinification: typically partial whole-cluster fermentation depending on the vintage, indigenous yeasts, and moderate extraction to keep tannins fine and elegant. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—often with a restrained proportion of new oak—allowing the vineyard character to shine through rather than being dominated by wood, before being bottled with minimal filtration.

Food & Serving
This Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux pairs beautifully with refined yet savory dishes such as roast duck breast, pigeon, or guinea fowl, as well as veal chops, lamb racks, and game birds with mushroom or truffle accents. It also works wonderfully alongside earthy vegetarian plates like mushroom risotto, roasted root vegetables, or lentil dishes with herbs. Serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F) to highlight its aromatic complexity and precision. In its youth, decanting for 45–60 minutes is recommended to allow the bouquet to open and the tannins to soften; as it gains bottle age, a shorter decant or gentle splash in a carafe will usually suffice.

Producer
Domaine Bruno Clavelier is a highly respected, small grower estate based in Vosne-Romanée, known for its traditional methods, old vines, and meticulous organic viticulture. The family’s roots in Burgundy go back to the 18th century, but it was Bruno Clavelier who, in the 1990s, began bottling under his own name and quickly earned acclaim for pure, terroir-driven wines from top villages such as Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and Gevrey-Chambertin. Certified organic since the early 2000s, the domaine is seen as a reference for thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking in the Côte de Nuits, regularly praised by international critics for producing ageworthy, characterful Pinot Noirs that transparently reflect their individual climats.
