Description
Brocard Pierre Champagne Tradition Brut d’Assemblage is a characterful grower Champagne that showcases the finesse and energy of the Côte des Bar. Crafted from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and the rarer Pinot Blanc, it offers a distinctive, artisanal expression quite different from large house styles. This non-vintage cuvée marries tradition and precision, drawing on generations of family know‑how in the southern reaches of the Champagne region.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Champagne shows a bright, pale gold color with fine, persistent bubbles forming an elegant mousse. The nose is inviting and complex, with notes of ripe orchard fruits—pear, golden apple—and citrus zest, layered with hints of white flowers, fresh brioche, almond, and a subtle chalky minerality.
On the palate, it is crisp yet generous, driven by Pinot Noir’s red-fruited depth and Chardonnay’s linear freshness, with Pinot Blanc adding a delicate floral nuance and texture. Expect flavors of lemon cream, green apple, stone fruit and light pastry, supported by a lively acidity and a clean, mineral finish. Drink beautifully on release for its vibrancy, but this NV Brut can comfortably evolve for 3–5 years, gaining more toast, honey and nutty complexity with time in bottle.
Production
Sourced from estate vineyards in the Côte des Bar in southern Champagne, the fruit benefits from clay-limestone and Kimmeridgian marl soils that lend both richness and tension. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve aromatics and ensure careful bunch selection. In the cellar, the varieties are vinified separately in stainless steel and/or neutral vessels, then blended to achieve the house style before secondary fermentation in bottle following the traditional Champagne method. Extended lees aging adds texture and autolytic complexity, while a balanced brut dosage highlights the wine’s natural freshness and purity.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is a versatile partner at the table: excellent with oysters, scallops, sushi, sashimi, and delicate white fish, but also superb alongside soft cheeses, charcuterie, roast chicken, or light pasta dishes with cream or seafood. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) in a tulip-shaped glass to best capture its aromatics and fine bead. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle 10–15 minutes before serving allows the wine to open up and reveal additional layers.
