Description
Bosquets Gigondas Le Lieu Dit 2015 in magnum format is a Grenache-driven Rhône red that leans firmly towards finesse rather than sheer power. Sourced from a single, cooler parcel of sandy soils near the estate, it captures a beautifully pure, lifted expression of Gigondas in a particularly successful vintage. Praised by critics for its balance and refinement, this is a wine designed to show both immediate charm and graceful evolution in the cellar.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 Le Lieu Dit shows a deep, vibrant ruby color with a youthful rim that hints at its ongoing evolution. The nose is finely etched and perfumed, offering precise notes of ripe strawberry, raspberry and kirsch, layered with crushed flowers, subtle garrigue and sweet spice.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet remarkably poised, with a silken texture and no hard edges. Red berry fruit glides across the tongue, supported by polished tannins and a fresh, cool-mineral line from the sandy, higher-altitude site. Hints of dried herbs, white pepper and floral tones linger on a long, harmonious finish. In magnum, this 2015 has excellent aging potential, with a drinking window comfortably spanning 10–15 years or more from the vintage, gaining complexity and tertiary nuances over time.
Production
Le Lieu Dit comes from a single, late-ripening parcel of predominantly sandy soils situated close to the Bosquets estate in Gigondas, a terroir that naturally emphasizes elegance, aromatic lift and fine tannins over sheer density. Grapes are typically harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and ensure precise selection in the vineyard. In the cellar, the Grenache-led blend is vinified with great care to highlight purity and balance—gentle extraction, controlled temperatures and judicious élevage (often in a mix of neutral vessels and larger barrels) allow the wine’s terroir-driven character to shine without being dominated by oak.
Food & Serving
This refined Gigondas pairs beautifully with dishes that honor its fragrance and supple texture: herb-crusted lamb, roast duck, slow-braised beef or veal cheeks, mushroom risotto, grilled Provençal vegetables and hard or semi-hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. Serve at around 16–18°C (60–64°F) to showcase its aromatic detail and balance. Decanting for 45–60 minutes in its youth will help the wine unfurl, while mature bottles may only need a gentle splash decant to remove sediment and let the bouquet fully blossom.
Producer
Domaine des Bosquets is one of the benchmark estates of Gigondas, with deep roots in the appellation and a reputation for crafting wines that combine Rhône warmth with real precision. Over the years, the domaine has invested heavily in parcel selection and sensitive vineyard work to highlight the nuances of its varied terroirs, including the distinctive sandy sites that give Le Lieu Dit its signature elegance. Frequently acclaimed by leading critics and collectors alike, Bosquets has played a key role in elevating Gigondas to its current status as one of the Southern Rhône’s most exciting sources of premium, cellar-worthy red wines.
