Description

Henri Bonneau’s Tradition Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2000 is a highly regarded expression from one of the Rhône Valley’s most iconic names. Known for its old-school character, depth, and remarkable sense of place, this wine reflects both the historic prestige of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the hands-on artistry of a legendary producer.

Tasting Notes
Expect a mature, complex red with garnet to brick-red tones at the rim, showing the evolution of a bottle with age. The nose is typically layered and savory, with notes of dried cherry, plum compote, wild herbs, leather, spice, tobacco, and earthy garrigue. On the palate, it is usually supple yet concentrated, with warm, silky fruit, secondary flavors of truffle and sous-bois, and the kind of balanced, lingering finish that defines mature Rhône reds. While already in an expressive drinking window, wines of this pedigree can continue to hold and evolve gracefully for several more years under proper cellar conditions.

Production
Produced in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where galet-strewn soils, sun-drenched vineyards, and the influence of the Mistral help create ripe, structured wines with strong aromatic intensity. Henri Bonneau was known for traditional methods and patient élevage, often using old barrels and minimal intervention to preserve the wine’s natural character and complexity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck, game dishes, braised short ribs, and mushroom-based recipes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if needed to help release its aromas—particularly if the bottle has been resting for a long time.

Producer
Henri Bonneau was one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s most revered producers, celebrated for deeply individual wines made in a classic, traditional style. His wines earned a cult following for their authenticity, longevity, and unmistakable personality, securing his place among the most respected names in the Rhône.
