Bodegas Valduero’s Ribera del Duero Reserva Premium 6 Años 2016 is a flagship Tempranillo that reflects one of the true pioneers of the appellation. Made only in exceptional vintages, it combines old-vine concentration, extended oak maturation, and long cellar aging to deliver a wine of real depth and prestige.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it is expected to show a deep, intense ruby color with impressive concentration. The nose should be complex and layered, with ripe dark fruit, cedar, spice, toasted oak, and savory development from its long élevage. On the palate, this is a structured, full-bodied Ribera del Duero with ripe black fruit, firm yet polished tannins, and flavors that unfold slowly through spice, vanilla, tobacco, and mineral nuance. The long aging gives it remarkable balance and elegance, and it has excellent cellaring potential, likely continuing to evolve gracefully for many years.

Production
Sourced from Valduero’s high-altitude vineyards in the Golden Triangle of Ribera del Duero, between Gumiel de Mercado and Villanueva de Gumiel, the fruit comes from old bush vines planted at 800 to 900 meters above sea level. These low-yielding vineyards produce concentrated grapes with naturally strong character. Harvest is done by hand, and the wine is vinified in the estate’s underground winery using gravity flow, avoiding pumping to preserve freshness and finesse. After fermentation, the wine spends three years maturing in a blend of four different oak types, followed by another three years aging in bottle in Valduero’s cellars. This six-year maturation regime is what gives the Reserva Premium its depth, complexity, and remarkable aging capacity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, game, braised beef, aged Manchego, and rich mushroom dishes. Serve it at 16-18°C, and decant for at least 1-2 hours to allow the wine’s aromatic complexity and structure to open fully.

Founded in 1984, Bodegas Valduero is widely regarded as one of the pioneering estates of Ribera del Duero. Built by Gregorio García Álvarez and Yolanda and Carolina García Viadero, the winery helped shape the identity of the region and has since expanded to more than 150 hectares of vineyards. Known for its commitment to old bush vines, sustainable farming, and a modern underground winery, Valduero is also recognized for championing the local white grape Albillo Mayor and for producing highly regarded age-worthy wines.
