Description
Bernard Haas Crémant d'Alsace is a refined traditional-method sparkling wine from the heart of Alsace, crafted for those who enjoy elegance, freshness and precision in the glass. This non-vintage cuvée captures the pure, cool-climate character of the region, offering vibrant fruit, fine bubbles and a clean, dry finish that make it ideal both as an aperitif and at the table. As with all wines from the Haas family estate, it stands out for its clarity of fruit, careful craftsmanship and consistently high quality compared with many peers in Alsace.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Crémant d'Alsace typically shows a pale straw to light golden hue, animated by a persistent stream of fine, delicate bubbles and a creamy mousse.
On the nose, expect bright aromas of green apple, citrus zest and pear, layered with floral notes of white blossom and hints of brioche, fresh pastry and crushed chalk from its time on the lees. The palate is crisp and lively, with a well-balanced dosage that keeps the wine dry yet approachable. Flavours of lemon, apple and stone fruit are underpinned by a subtle nutty, biscuity complexity and a mouthwatering mineral line that carries through to a clean, refreshing finish. Enjoy it now for its energy and finesse; with a couple of years of cellaring, the wine will gain a touch more creaminess and autolytic complexity while retaining its freshness.
Production
Sourced from estate vineyards around Kaysersberg in Alsace, including sites influenced by the granitic soils that have made nearby Grand Cru Schlossberg famous, this Crémant reflects a cool continental climate that preserves acidity and aromatic intensity. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure optimal ripeness and careful selection of healthy fruit, particularly important for sparkling wine production. Pressing is gentle to obtain the purest juice, which is then fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel to preserve delicate aromatics. The second fermentation takes place in bottle, following the traditional method, with extended lees ageing to develop fine bubbles and subtle notes of brioche and pastry before disgorgement and a carefully judged dosage.
Food & Serving
This Crémant d'Alsace is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with oysters, fresh shellfish, sushi, smoked salmon and light fish dishes, as well as charcuterie, mild goat cheese, soft-rind cheeses and vegetable tartlets. It also makes an effortless aperitif and works well with canapés or lightly spiced Asian-inspired starters. Serve well chilled at about 6–8°C (43–46°F). A brief opening in the glass is usually sufficient; decanting is not necessary, but pouring into proper sparkling wine flutes or narrow white wine glasses will show its aromatics and texture to best effect.
