Description

Bergström Cumberland Reserve Pinot Noir is one of the clearest expressions of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, crafted as Josh Bergström’s signature calling card. Sourced from biodynamically farmed vineyards and shaped by careful blending, it captures the freshness, spice, and earthy depth that have made Oregon Pinot Noir so admired.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, clear ruby-red color with an inviting, elegant appearance. The nose opens with red cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, layered with baking spice, herbs, and a subtle forest-floor, mineral edge that gives the wine its distinctive regional character. The palate is generous and juicy, with ripe red fruit balanced by fine tannins and lively acidity. A touch of well-integrated oak adds nuance rather than weight, leading to a long, polished finish. While approachable now, it has the structure and balance to develop gracefully over the next 5 to 7 years.

Production
This wine is a biodynamic blend from Willamette Valley, primarily drawn from Selice and Le Pre du Col, with smaller portions from Bergström Vineyard, Winery Block, and Gregory Ranch Vineyard. The style is built around careful vineyard selection and blending, with the aim of expressing both vintage character and the classic cool-climate profile of Oregon Pinot Noir.

Food & Serving
A versatile food wine, it pairs beautifully with grilled salmon, duck breast, mushroom risotto, and lightly spiced poultry dishes. It also works well with soft cheeses such as Brie and Camembert. Serve slightly chilled, around 14–16°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short rest in the glass can help open the aromatics.

Producer
Bergström is one of Oregon’s most respected Pinot Noir producers, known for biodynamic farming and a precise, site-driven approach in the Willamette Valley. Under Josh Bergström’s direction, the winery has built a strong reputation for wines that combine freshness, spice, and earthy complexity while remaining faithful to the region’s identity.

One of my favorites from Oregon - with Swedish heritage if the name sounds Scandinavian to you. Visited them in 2015 and think they have gone from strength to strength. Light smokiness and generous fruit concentration, a somewhat exciting earthiness and refreshing acidity and rounded tannins, a size bigger for pinot but with elegance
