Description
Bava Monferrato Nebbiolo Superiore Serre di San Pietro 2023 is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from one of the family’s most historic vineyards in Cocconato, in the heart of Monferrato. Produced by the Bava family, who have cultivated these hills for 13 generations, it combines the elegance, structure, and freshness that make Piedmont’s great Nebbiolos so distinctive.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine typically shows Nebbiolo’s signature pale-to-medium ruby hue with bright highlights and graceful transparency. The nose is likely to be lifted and expressive, with notes of red cherry, wild berries, rose petal, and subtle earthy spice, all supported by the variety’s natural finesse.
On the palate, it should be elegant yet structured, with firm but polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a fresh, harmonious finish. While already attractive in its youth, it has the structure to evolve nicely over the next several years, developing more depth and complexity with time.
Production
Serre di San Pietro comes from the Cadodo hill in Cocconato, an area with a long tradition of Nebbiolo cultivation and a panoramic, hillside landscape well suited to this demanding grape. The vines were replanted in the late 1990s, and the site’s quality was later recognized with the Monferrato DOC Nebbiolo appellation. The combination of historic terroir, careful vineyard work, and Bava’s long family experience gives the wine its balance of elegance and structure.
Food & Serving
This Nebbiolo is an excellent match for Piedmontese cuisine, including tajarin with meat ragù, roasted veal, porcini mushrooms, braised beef, and aged cheeses. Serve it at 16–18°C, and decanting for about 30–60 minutes is recommended to help the aromas open up and soften the tannins.
