Description

Barolo Brovia 2011 is a quintessential, traditionally crafted Barolo that beautifully captures the character of both the vintage and the Brovia estate. Sourced from several of the domaine’s top vineyards— including Garblèt Sue’, Villero and Rocche di Castiglione—this wine combines structure, depth and grace in one harmonious bottle. The warm 2011 growing season has given a Barolo that is generous and accessible, while still firmly rooted in classic Barolo typicity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Barolo Brovia 2011 shows a classic Nebbiolo hue: a deep garnet core with brick-orange reflections developing at the rim, a sign of its evolution in bottle. The nose is complex and inviting, opening with ripe red and black cherries, rose petals and dried violets, followed by nuances of licorice, dried herbs, tobacco leaf and a subtle tarry, earthy note that is so emblematic of Barolo. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet refined, with a silky tannin texture shaped by the warm vintage and Brovia’s traditional élevage. Layers of dark cherry, plum and wild berries intertwine with savory spice, leather, and a distinct mineral backbone. The acidity is vibrant and keeps the wine poised and energetic, leading into a long, persistent finish with a firm Barolo grip. Already drinking beautifully, this 2011 has the structure and freshness to continue evolving for another 8–10 years, gaining further tertiary notes of truffle, forest floor and dried fruit.

Production
This Barolo is a blend of Nebbiolo from several of Brovia’s prized crus in Barolo and Castiglione Falletto, notably Garblèt Sue’, Villero and Rocche di Castiglione—sites known for their calcareous clay and marl soils that give Barolo its tension and mineral drive. The 2011 season was warm and sunny, with an early harvest delivering grapes of excellent ripeness and supple tannic structure. All fruit is hand-harvested at optimal maturity and carefully sorted in the cellar. Vinification follows a firmly traditional path: extended maceration on the skins to extract aroma, color and tannin, followed by aging for around 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks. The wine then rests further in bottle in the estate’s cellars to allow the elements to knit together before release.

Food & Serving
Barolo Brovia 2011 is a superb partner for rich, savory dishes such as braised beef, osso buco, slow-cooked lamb shanks and game birds, as well as truffle-infused risotto, mushroom ragù, and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or mature Pecorino. Serve at 17–18 °C to showcase both its aromatics and structure. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to let the bouquet fully unfurl and to soften the tannins, especially if opened on the younger side of its drinking window.

Producer
Founded in 1863 and still family-run, Brovia is one of the great traditional estates of Barolo, renowned for its meticulous vineyard work and its respect for terroir. Based in Castiglione Falletto, the domaine has built a reputation on bottling some of the region’s most respected crus, always with a classic, ageworthy style. Brovia’s unwavering commitment to hand-harvesting, low yields and long, traditional vinification in large Slavonian oak has made the estate a benchmark for Barolo purists. Their wines—balanced, precise and expressive—are regularly celebrated by critics and collectors alike as reference points for the appellation.
