Azienda Agricola Cornarea, Roero Arneis 2022 White

Cornarea Roero Arneis DOCG 2022 is a beautifully expressive Piedmont white made from 100% Arneis, the native grape that Cornarea helped bring back from near-extinction in Roero. Fresh, refined, and unmistakably local, it reflects both the character of the region and the pioneering spirit of the family behind it.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Roero Arneis typically shows a pale straw-yellow color with a bright, lively sheen. The nose is delicate yet inviting, with notes of white flowers, ripe pear, citrus, and a subtle mineral edge that reflects its sandy, calcareous soils. On the palate, it is fresh and balanced, with a supple texture, crisp acidity, and a clean, gently savory finish. The sur lie ageing adds extra depth and roundness without taking away from the wine’s natural finesse. While it is ready to enjoy now, it should hold well over the next few years, developing more complexity with time.

Production
Cornarea’s vineyards are located in Canale, in the heart of Roero, on hillsides at around 280 meters above sea level with exposures to the east, southeast, northeast, and west. The vines, planted between 1975 and 1977, grow in sandy-clay soils with limestone and high magnesium content, giving the wine its distinctive freshness and mineral drive. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, and fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures before the wine is matured sur lie to enhance texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
This Arneis is an excellent aperitif and pairs beautifully with both warm and cold starters. It works especially well with flavorful dishes such as risotto, pesto pasta, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, white meats, shellfish, and crustaceans. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and decanting is not necessary.

Azienda Agricola Cornarea is a family-run estate in Canale, founded by Piero and Francesca in the mid-1970s with a visionary focus on Arneis, at a time when the grape was close to disappearing from Roero. Today, their sons Gian Nicola and Pierfranco continue the project, preserving the estate’s traditions while pursuing the highest possible quality. Cornarea is widely respected as one of the key names in the revival and success of Roero Arneis.
