Description
Attems Chardonnay 2025 brings together the elegance of Friuli-Venezia Giulia with the long winemaking heritage of Attems, a name linked to Collio since 1106. Produced by Attems under the Frescobaldi family, it reflects a deep respect for place, with vineyards shaped by the region’s coastal influence, alpine breezes, and remarkably biodiverse ecosystems.
Tasting Notes
This Chardonnay shows a fragrant, fruit-driven profile with a subtle spicy edge and a well-defined structure. Expect a bright, polished style with aromas that lean toward ripe orchard fruit and delicate seasoning, supported by a fresh mineral backbone that gives the wine lift and clarity.
On the palate, it is balanced and expressive, combining texture with a clean, precise finish. The mix of stainless steel and a portion of new barrique adds depth without overwhelming the varietal character, while the fine lees aging lends roundness and complexity. It is a wine that can be enjoyed young for its freshness, but it should also hold well over the short to medium term.
Production
The grapes come from vineyards in the province of Gorizia, positioned between the plains and the first slopes, where eocene sandstone and deep alluvial soils rich in pebbles help shape the wine’s mineral character and structure. Harvesting is done by hand, typically in the first half of September, to ensure the fruit arrives at the cellar in ideal condition.
After pressing, the must is clarified by settling for 24 to 48 hours and then fermented at low temperature, between 15°C and 17°C, for around 15 days. Vinification is mainly carried out in stainless steel, while 20% of the wine is fermented in new barriques, with fermentation stopped before malolactic conversion. Before release, the wine rests on its fine lees for four months.
Food & Serving
This Chardonnay is a natural match for grilled fish, shellfish, roasted chicken, risotto with herbs, and creamy pasta dishes. It also works beautifully with vegetable dishes and mild cheeses. Serve it chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is not necessary.
Producer
Attems is one of the historic names of Collio, with a winemaking story that reaches back to 1106 and a documented tradition of cultivating local grapes such as Refosco and Ribolla Gialla since 1764. Since 2000, the estate has been part of the Frescobaldi family, who have preserved its strong regional identity and close connection to the land. Today, Attems remains an important reference point for Friuli-Venezia Giulia, known for combining heritage with a precise, terroir-driven style.
