Description

Angélus 2009 is one of Saint-Émilion’s great modern classics, combining the depth and richness of a superb vintage with the precision and elegance that define this First Growth-level estate. Crafted from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, it offers the dark-fruited power, floral lift, and finesse that have made Angélus one of Bordeaux’s most admired names.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep garnet to purple hue, reflecting both concentration and youthfulness for a wine of this caliber. The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of black cherry, plum, blackberry, violet, cedar, cocoa, and subtle spice, unfolding with remarkable complexity as it breathes. On the palate, the 2009 vintage is generous and velvety, with ripe Merlot bringing plush fruit and Cabernet Franc adding freshness, structure, and aromatic precision. Expect polished tannins, impressive length, and a harmonious balance between opulence and elegance. While already highly enjoyable, this wine has the concentration and structure to age gracefully for many years, developing more earthy, truffle-like nuances with time.

Production
Angélus is based in Saint-Émilion on Bordeaux’s right bank, where a mosaic of limestone and clay soils helps shape wines with both power and lift. The estate’s vineyards benefit from excellent exposure and a warm microclimate, allowing the grapes to reach full ripeness while preserving freshness. Harvesting is typically carried out parcel by parcel, with careful sorting to ensure only the best fruit enters the final blend, followed by vinification that emphasizes precision, gentle extraction, and aging in oak barrels to build texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, or game bird, as well as truffle-rich mushroom preparations and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if opening now to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.

Producer
Château Angélus is one of the most prestigious estates in Saint-Émilion and was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé A status, reflecting its exceptional quality and consistency. The estate has built a reputation for producing wines of grandeur, precision, and longevity, and is widely regarded as a benchmark for the appellation. Its name, inspired by the church bells heard across the vineyard, has become synonymous with some of Bordeaux’s most sought-after wines.
