Made from four different Syrah clones and aged in oak for 18 months, it reflects the thoughtful, hands-on winemaking at Ampelos and the broader story of Syrah’s rise in California as a grape capable of remarkable depth and complexity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a dark, almost black core with vivid purple highlights, hinting at its intensity. The nose opens with ripe blueberries and plums, layered with darker spice, subtle oak, and a touch of savory complexity. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, yet balanced by fresh fruit acidity and supple tannins. The result is a Syrah with real breadth and definition, offering generous fruit, structure, and a long, polished finish. It has the balance to develop further over the next several years, especially as its oak and fruit components continue to knit together.

Production
Ampelos sources fruit from its vineyard in California, where the warm climate helps Syrah reach full ripeness while still retaining freshness. To build complexity, the winery works with four Syrah clones, carefully pressed in a basket press before malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels. The wine then matures for 18 months in oak and is bottled unfiltered and unfined, which may result in natural sediment.

Food & Serving
This Syrah is an excellent match for grilled meats, especially steak, lamb, or barbecue with smoky, savory seasoning. It also pairs well with roasted game, charred vegetables, and hearty dishes with peppery or herb-driven sauces. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to let the wine open fully and soften its structure.
