Ampelos Cellars’ Pinot Noir Lambda 2021 is a graceful Sta. Rita Hills expression that balances California’s ripe, seductive fruit with the finesse and silkiness often associated with Burgundy. Crafted by Danish-born Peter Work, it captures the character of this cool-climate region in a poised, elegant style with a distinctly premium feel.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows bright, inviting Pinot Noir color and immediately draws you in with aromas of strawberry, raspberry, and cherry. The palate is juicy and energetic, with a lively acidity that keeps the wine lifted and fresh, while the fruit feels smooth, supple, and polished. There is a subtle tension beneath the wine’s generous fruit profile, giving it both charm and structure. With its vibrant acidity and balanced oak influence, it has very good aging potential and should evolve beautifully over time, gaining complexity while preserving its vibrant core.

Production
Sourced from vineyards in Sta. Rita Hills, one of California’s most distinctive cool-climate terroirs, this Pinot Noir benefits from the region’s maritime influence, which helps preserve freshness and aromatic precision. The vineyards are certified sustainable, organic, and biodynamic, underscoring a careful approach in both the vineyard and the cellar. The wine was aged for 30 months in French oak barrels, including 33% new oak, adding gentle spice, texture, and depth without overpowering the fruit. This long élevage helps shape the wine’s refined structure and layered character.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for roast duck, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, herb-roasted chicken, and charcuterie. It also pairs beautifully with earthy vegetarian dishes such as beetroot tart or mushroom risotto. Serve at around 14–16°C, and decant briefly if you’d like to open up the aromas and soften the wine’s youthful edge.
