Alion 2020

Alión 2020 is a powerful yet polished Ribera del Duero red from the prestigious Vega Sicilia family, crafted from carefully selected parcels and old-vine Tinto Fino, the local name for Tempranillo. It combines the depth and concentration expected from one of Spain’s most admired names with a more modern, seductive style, making it a standout for collectors and Rioja-and-Ribera lovers alike.

Tasting Notes
Deep, intense color in the glass hints at the wine’s concentration and seriousness. The nose is expressive and layered, with ripe dark berries, plum, subtle spice, fine oak, and a touch of mineral freshness, all wrapped in an elegant, sensual profile. On the palate, Alión 2020 is bold and concentrated, yet beautifully controlled, showing ripe black fruit, polished tannins, and a refined balance of power and finesse. The finish is long and persistent, with the structure to age gracefully for up to 20 years from the vintage, developing even greater complexity over time.

Production
The grapes come from selected plots in Ribera del Duero, in Castilla y León, sourced from vineyards around 25 to 30 years old. Yields are kept extremely low to achieve maximum concentration, and harvest is carried out earlier than at Vega Sicilia to preserve freshness and precision. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 16 months in new oak barrels, giving it depth, structure, and a subtle layer of spice and toast.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled ribeye, lamb chops, roast suckling pig, or slow-braised beef dishes, as well as aged Manchego and other firm sheep’s cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to fully open and reveal its complexity.
