Alión 2018 in double magnum format is a powerful and highly collectible Ribera del Duero red from the Vega Sicilia family, made from old-vine Tempranillo and crafted for depth, precision, and longevity. Produced from carefully selected parcels with very low yields, it captures both the intensity and the refined elegance that have made Alión one of Spain’s most admired modern reds.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Alión 2018 shows a deep, saturated color that hints at its concentration and structure. The nose is expressive and polished, with ripe dark berries, black cherry, plum, fine spice, toasted oak, and subtle mineral notes, all framed by a sensuous, elegant character. On the palate, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe tannins, layered fruit, and a firm but beautifully balanced structure. The oak aging adds depth without overwhelming the fruit, and the wine finishes long, precise, and harmonious. Thanks to its intensity and balance, this vintage has excellent aging potential and can develop gracefully for up to 20 years from harvest.

Production
Alión comes from selected vineyards in Ribera del Duero in Castilla y León, with fruit sourced from 25- to 30-year-old Tempranillo vines, also known locally as Tinto Fino. Harvesting is carried out earlier than at Vega Sicilia to preserve freshness, and the wine is vinified with a strong focus on concentration and purity, using extremely low yields to achieve remarkable density in the final wine. It is then matured for 16 months in new oak barrels, giving the wine its polished structure and lifted spice.

Food & Serving
Alión 2018 pairs beautifully with grilled beef, roast lamb, game, and rich dishes such as braised short ribs or suckling pig. It also works well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least 1–2 hours to allow the wine to open fully, especially in this large-format bottle.
