Description

Albert Bichot’s Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2017 is a refined expression of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most admired climats, combining depth, finesse and real Burgundy precision. From a historic Grand Cru site in the Côte de Nuits, it brings together Pinot Noir’s perfume, structure and sensual texture in a way that feels both classic and highly polished.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the concentration and dark elegance expected from Grand Cru Burgundy, with a vibrant core and a beautifully lifted aromatic profile. The nose opens with kirsch, wild strawberry, raspberry, red currant and violets, then gradually reveals more savory nuances of spice, pepper and a subtle animal complexity with time in bottle. On the palate, it is medium-bodied yet impressively layered, balancing supple, rounded tannins with fine acidity and a long, tension-filled finish. The wine has enough structure to age gracefully for several years, and with cellaring it should develop deeper earthy, meaty and spicy dimensions while preserving its freshness.

Production
The vines are planted in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, on one of Burgundy’s prized Grand Cru terroirs, where the soils and exposure give Pinot Noir both power and precision. Albert Bichot works with minimal intervention, allowing the character of the vineyard to lead the vinification and maturation process. The wine is transferred by gravity and aged for 12 to 18 months in oak barrels, with the level and origin of the oak chosen to add subtle complexity without masking the site’s natural expression.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for refined dishes such as duck breast, roast pigeon, veal, beef tenderloin, or game birds, as well as mushroom-based preparations and truffle risotto. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and decant gently if young to help the aromas open up; a short decant is usually enough to let the wine show its full perfume and detail.

Producer
Founded in 1831, Albert Bichot is one of Burgundy’s most respected wine houses, now led by Albéric Bichot, the sixth generation of the family. The domaine owns six outstanding estates across Chablis, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Beaujolais, giving it access to some of the region’s finest terroirs. Its reputation is built on quality vineyard holdings, careful cellar work and wines that are consistently true to their origin.
