Description

Alain Geoffroy Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2023 is a classic, mineral-driven white Burgundy crafted from old-vine Chardonnay in the heart of Chablis. This cuvée highlights the tension and purity that have made Chablis a reference point for Chardonnay lovers worldwide. Sourced from older vines with naturally low yields, it offers extra depth, concentration and a finely etched expression of the region’s famous Kimmeridgian limestone soils.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Vieilles Vignes shows a pale lemon color with green reflections, signaling freshness and youth. The nose is precise and elegant, opening with citrus zest and green apple, followed by notes of white flowers, wet stone, oyster shell and a hint of chalky salinity. On the palate, this is a taut, vibrant Chablis with a core of lemon, lime and crunchy orchard fruit wrapped in a firm mineral spine. Subtle nuances of white peach and fresh almond appear with air, balanced by racy acidity and a clean, mouthwatering finish. The old vines add an extra layer of texture and length, giving a sense of quiet power beneath the finesse. Enjoyable now for its energy and purity, it will gain complexity over the next 3–6 years, developing more honeyed, hazelnut and brioche notes while retaining its characteristic Chablis freshness.

Production
The Alain Geoffroy Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2023 is drawn from old Chardonnay vines rooted in the classic Kimmeridgian limestone and clay slopes of Chablis, a terroir renowned for imparting tension, salinity and a distinctive ‘iodine’ character to the wines. The older vines produce naturally smaller yields, concentrating flavor and minerality in the grapes. Harvesting is typically carried out with great care, often with a focus on preserving fruit integrity and freshness. In the cellar, the wine is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel to safeguard purity and highlight the terroir, with a period on fine lees to add subtle roundness and texture without masking the crystalline Chablis character with overt oak.

Food & Serving
This Chablis Vieilles Vignes is a natural partner for seafood: think oysters, shellfish platters, grilled prawns, sushi and sashimi, or simply prepared white fish with lemon and herbs. It also works beautifully with goat cheese, fresh chèvre salads, light poultry dishes, and vegetable dishes featuring asparagus, fennel or artichoke. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally around 9–11°C (48–52°F). Young bottles can benefit from being opened 15–20 minutes in advance, and a brief, gentle decant is optional but can help the wine unfurl its floral and mineral nuances.
