Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 AUS DEN LAGEN Riesling presents a pale straw to light lemon color with green reflections, signaling freshness and youthful energy. The nose is finely etched and complex: expect notes of lime zest, white peach and green apple, supported by nuances of wet stone, delicate herbs and a hint of blossom. Subtle, well-integrated lees and wood tones add depth without ever feeling heavy. On the palate, this is a focused, dry Riesling with crystal-clear fruit and a vibrant, finely chiselled acidity typical of top Pfalz sites. Citrus, stone fruit and crisp apple are layered over a distinctly mineral backbone, with salty, stony nuances carrying through to a long, precise finish. The structure suggests it will drink beautifully in its youth for its brightness and tension, but it also has the concentration and balance to evolve nicely over the next 5–8 years, gaining more complexity and textural finesse.

Production
The fruit for AUS DEN LAGEN comes exclusively from Christmann’s top classified vineyards in the Mittelhaardt around Gimmeldingen, Ruppertsberg, Neustadt and Königsbach – sites such as Kapellenberg, Meerspinne, Linsenbusch, Reiterpfad, Vogelsang, Idig and Ölberg. These steep to gently sloping parcels feature a mix of sandstone, limestone and loess, giving both ripeness and a pronounced mineral signature. The estate is farmed organically (Bio) with great emphasis on soil health and low yields to ensure concentration and aromatic clarity. Grapes are hand-harvested in small selections to bring in perfectly ripe, healthy berries, then gently pressed. Fermentation and élevage take place predominantly in large traditional wooden casks (around two-thirds), with the rest in stainless steel, allowing the wine to develop texture and complexity while preserving its precision and freshness. Bottling is done relatively early to lock in purity and tension.

Food & Serving
This Riesling is a versatile partner at the table, shining with delicately aromatic dishes and fine, clean flavors. It pairs beautifully with sushi and sashimi, ceviche, marinated prawns, or lightly grilled fish, as well as with poultry dishes, spring vegetables, and classic German cuisine like trout with herbs or light pork dishes. It also works well with mildly spicy Asian dishes, especially those with ginger, lemongrass or lime. Serve chilled at around 8–10 °C. Decanting is not essential, but a brief splash into a carafe or some time in a larger glass will help the wine open up its layers of fruit and minerality.
