Abbazia di Novacella Schiava is a bright, beautifully approachable red from one of Alto Adige’s most historic estates. Made from the local Schiava (Vernatsch) grape, it offers a lighter-bodied, elegant style that has long been part of the region’s alpine wine tradition.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, expect a translucent ruby-red color that reflects its delicate, fresh style. The nose is typically lifted and inviting, with red cherry, wild strawberry, violet, and a subtle almond note. On the palate, it is silky and juicy, with soft tannins, lively freshness, and flavors of ripe red berries, cranberry, and a hint of spice. This is a wine meant for youthful drinking, though its balance and purity make it especially enjoyable over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from the cool Alpine vineyards of Trentino-Alto Adige, where altitude, temperature swings, and well-drained soils help preserve freshness and aromatic clarity. Schiava is traditionally harvested by hand to protect the delicate fruit, then vinified with a focus on preserving its light, fragrant character and supple texture.

Food & Serving
Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 14–16°C, to bring out its freshness and charm. It pairs wonderfully with charcuterie, speck, roast chicken, grilled vegetables, mushroom dishes, and Tyrolean-style alpine cuisine. Decanting is not necessary.
