Aalto 2018

Aalto 2018 is a powerful yet beautifully balanced Ribera del Duero red made entirely from Tempranillo, showcasing the depth and refinement that have made this estate one of Castilla y León’s most respected names. Crafted from a mix of old vines and younger estate parcels, it brings together concentration, elegance, and a strong sense of place in a style that has become a benchmark for modern Spanish fine wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Aalto 2018 shows a deep, intense dark cherry colour that hints at its richness and structure. The nose is generous and layered, with ripe black berries, warm spices, and subtle toasted notes from oak ageing. On the palate, it is full-bodied and polished, with ripe fruit, integrated tannins, and flavours of liquorice, coffee, tobacco, and vanilla. The wine feels harmonious and structured, with the concentration and balance to age well over several years.

Production
This wine is produced in Ribera del Duero from 100% Tempranillo sourced from a combination of 40- to 80-year-old vines on leased plots and younger vines from Bodegas Aalto’s own vineyards in Valladolid. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before vinification to preserve quality and precision. It is then matured for 16 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels, both new and used, which adds complexity without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
Aalto 2018 is an excellent match for grilled or roasted beef, lamb, game, and mature cheeses. Serve at 16-18 °C to bring out its balance and aromatic depth. Decanting is recommended, especially if enjoyed young, to allow the wine to open up and show its full range of aromas and texture.
