Description
Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2008 is one of the great Blanc de Blancs releases from Champagne, offered here in a rare original wooden case of six bottles. Made exclusively from Chardonnay grown in Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs, it captures the house’s signature style of finesse, purity, and chalk-driven precision. The 2008 vintage is widely regarded as a benchmark year in Champagne, adding both prestige and exceptional aging potential.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright golden hue with a refined, persistent mousse. The bouquet is lifted and elegant, opening with citrus peel, white flowers, almond, and brioche, followed by subtle hints of ripe orchard fruit and toasted complexity.
The palate is layered and focused, with flavors of green apple, peach, roasted nuts, and a distinct chalky mineral edge. High acidity gives the wine remarkable tension and freshness, while the finish is long, precise, and harmonious. This is a Champagne built for the cellar, with the structure to evolve beautifully over the next 20 to 30 years.
Production
This cuvée is crafted solely from Chardonnay sourced from Grand Cru sites in the Côte des Blancs, where chalk-rich soils contribute the wine’s signature minerality and elegance. The grapes are carefully selected and vinified to preserve purity and freshness, with extended aging on the lees helping to build texture, depth, and aromatic complexity.
Food & Serving
Ideal with oysters, caviar, scallops, lobster, sashimi, or elegant poultry dishes such as roast chicken with herbs. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C to showcase its precision and freshness. Decanting is not usually necessary, but allowing it to breathe briefly in the glass can help release its full aromatic range.
