Description

Antonio Caggiano Tauri Aglianico dell'Irpinia is a characterful red from Campania that showcases one of southern Italy’s most distinctive native grapes. Crafted by the respected Antonio Caggiano estate, it offers the depth, structure, and regional identity that have made Aglianico a benchmark variety in Irpinia.

Tasting Notes
Expect a deep ruby color with youthful purple hues in the glass. The nose typically leans toward dark cherry, plum, blackberry, and Mediterranean herbs, with hints of spice, violets, and a subtle earthy edge. On the palate, Aglianico is known for its firm tannins, lively acidity, and layered dark fruit, often followed by notes of licorice, cocoa, and mineral nuance. This is a wine with good aging potential, and it will likely gain further complexity with time in bottle.

Production
Produced in Campania’s Irpinia zone, where elevation, volcanic influences, and cooler hillside sites help preserve freshness and give Aglianico its signature tension and structure. The grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure quality selection, and vinification is geared toward bringing out the grape’s natural depth while maintaining balance and regional typicity.

Food & Serving
Ideal with richly flavored dishes such as roasted lamb, braised beef, game, grilled sausages, and mushroom-based pasta. Serve at around 16–18°C; decanting is recommended if the wine is young, as it can help soften the tannins and open up the aromatics.

Producer
Antonio Caggiano is one of the most respected names in Irpinia, known for championing the local grape varieties and helping raise the profile of Campania’s fine wines. The estate has built a strong reputation for quality and authenticity, with particular emphasis on expressing the unique identity of Aglianico and the region’s historic winemaking tradition.
