Description

The 2024 Logodaj Winery Nobile Chardonnay Barrel Reserve is a modern Bulgarian white that showcases how far the country’s premium winemaking has come. Crafted from carefully selected Chardonnay and matured in oak, it offers a generous, layered style that will appeal to lovers of rich yet balanced whites. As one of the leading estates in southwestern Bulgaria, Logodaj brings both experience and ambition to this expressive barrel‑aged Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chardonnay typically shows a bright straw‑yellow color with subtle golden highlights, hinting at its time in barrel. The nose opens with ripe stone fruits—think peach and apricot—alongside notes of baked apple, lemon curd and a refined layer of vanilla, toast and sweet spice from the oak. With a little air, more complex aromas may emerge: hazelnut, brioche and a faint hint of citrus blossom. On the palate, expect a generous, rounded texture supported by fresh acidity, giving the wine both weight and lift. Flavors of ripe pear, peach and citrus are interwoven with notes of cream, toasted oak and a touch of butteriness, depending on the level of malolactic influence. The finish is persistent, with a fine balance between fruit, oak and a discreet mineral edge that reflects its origin. Enjoyable in its youth for its vivid fruit and oak polish, this 2024 Barrel Reserve also has the structure to develop additional complexity over the next 3–5 years in bottle, gaining more nutty and honeyed nuances.

Production
Sourced from vineyards in southwestern Bulgaria, Logodaj’s Chardonnay benefits from a warm, sunny climate moderated by cool nights and the influence of nearby mountain ranges. This combination promotes full ripening while preserving natural acidity, and the soils—often stony and well‑drained—help concentrate flavor and structure. Grapes for the Nobile Barrel Reserve are typically harvested selectively, focusing on optimal ripeness and healthy fruit. After gentle pressing, the must is fermented—at least in part—in oak barrels, where the wine may also rest on its fine lees to build texture and complexity, with periodic stirring depending on the vintage style. Maturation in carefully chosen barrels (often a mix of new and seasoned oak) adds the wine’s characteristic notes of spice, toast and creaminess, while the winemaking team aims to preserve Chardonnay’s freshness and varietal purity.

Food & Serving
This barrel‑matured Chardonnay pairs beautifully with richer seafood dishes such as seared scallops, butter‑poached lobster, creamy seafood pasta or grilled salmon. It also works very well with roasted chicken, turkey, veal in light cream sauces, mushroom risotto, and semi‑hard cheeses like Comté, Gruyère or aged Gouda. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to let the oak and fruit components harmonize without muting the aromas. A short decant of 15–20 minutes, or simply pouring into the glass and giving it time to open, will help the wine reveal its full aromatic complexity and soften any youthful oak edges.

Producer
Founded in the heart of southwestern Bulgaria, Logodaj Winery has built its reputation as a pioneering estate in the region, originally renowned for its characterful red wines from local and international varieties. Over time, the winery has expanded its focus to include high‑quality whites such as Chardonnay, using a combination of modern technology and careful barrel work to highlight Bulgaria’s potential for premium, expressive wines. Logodaj plays an important role in raising the profile of its region on the international stage, often recognized for consistent quality and for showcasing a distinctive, sun‑drenched yet balanced style that reflects its unique terroir.
