Luddite’s 2024 Chenin Blanc from Bot River is a distinctive South African white that combines old-school craftsmanship with a clearly modern sense of precision. Sourced from the House Block and Dog Block parcels, it reflects the cool coastal character of the region and the winery’s uncompromising, minimal-intervention approach. This is a wine with real identity: textured, focused, and full of site-driven character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, pale straw color with a lively sheen. The nose opens with white peach, pear, and lime zest, layered with chamomile, fresh herbs, and a subtle mineral edge. The palate is taut and saline, with a firm, structured frame and a fine phenolic grip that gives the wine real shape. Its vibrant acidity keeps everything lifted, while the finish is long, savory, lightly nutty, and gently spicy. This is a Chenin Blanc that should age beautifully over the next 5–8 years, and possibly longer in a well-kept cellar.

Production
The grapes come from Bot River, a cool coastal area in South Africa known for producing wines with freshness and tension. Fruit from the House Block and Dog Block parcels was harvested by hand, then naturally fermented in used barriques. A portion of the wine spent up to 30 days on the skins, adding structure, grip, and complexity. The wine was raised unfiltered and without sulfur during fermentation, in a low-intervention style that emphasizes authenticity and texture.

Food & Serving
This Chenin Blanc pairs especially well with fish, poultry, and Mediterranean dishes, as well as aromatic or lightly spiced cuisine. It is also excellent with burrata, roast vegetables, or dishes featuring fresh herbs and citrus. Serve chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, and decant briefly if you want to soften its structure and let the aromatics open up.
