Description

The 2023 Tenuta di Biserno Insoglio del Cinghiale is a vibrant, modern Tuscan red that showcases the coastal elegance of Upper Maremma. Crafted as the most approachable wine from the prestigious Tenuta di Biserno estate, it delivers serious pedigree in a generous, fruit‑driven style. Named after the wild boars that roam the surrounding woods, Insoglio del Cinghiale has become a reference point for contemporary Tuscan blends that balance richness with drinkability.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Insoglio del Cinghiale shows a bright, youthful ruby color with purple highlights at the rim, signaling its energy and freshness. The nose is immediately inviting, opening with juicy red and black berries—think ripe cherry, plum and blackberry—layered with notes of wild herbs, violets, cracked pepper and a subtle touch of sweet spice and cedar. On the palate, this is supple and medium‑bodied with a smooth, polished texture. Syrah typically leads the blend, bringing dark fruit, spice and a gentle savory edge, while Bordeaux varieties add structure and elegance. Red currant, black cherry and blueberry are framed by fine, silky tannins and a lively, coastal freshness that keeps everything in balance. Hints of licorice, tobacco leaf and mineral notes linger on the finish. While primarily crafted for enjoyment in its youth, this vintage has the concentration and acidity to evolve gracefully over the next 5–7 years, gaining a bit more complexity and softness with time.

Production
Insoglio del Cinghiale is sourced from vineyards in the coastal area of Tuscany, in the Upper Maremma near Bibbona and Bolgheri, where maritime breezes and abundant sunshine create ideal conditions for ripe, healthy grapes. The soils are a mix of sandy loam, clay and pebbles, offering both good drainage and mineral tension that translate into aromatic complexity and freshness in the wine. Grapes are carefully harvested, typically by hand, at optimal ripeness to preserve purity of fruit. In the cellar, fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures to highlight the wine’s aromatic profile and vibrant character, followed by maturation (often partly in oak) to soften the tannins and bring subtle spice and texture without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
This 2023 Insoglio del Cinghiale is a versatile food wine that shines alongside rustic Tuscan dishes and everyday favorites. It pairs beautifully with grilled meats (lamb chops, pork sausages, bistecca alla fiorentina), roasted poultry, charcuterie, ragù‑based pastas, pizza with cured meats, and hearty vegetarian dishes like mushroom risotto or grilled eggplant. Serve at 16–18°C (around 60–64°F) to highlight both its fruit and its savory nuances. A brief decant of 30 minutes can help the aromas open up, especially in its youth, but it is also very enjoyable poured straight from the bottle.

Producer
Tenuta di Biserno is the brainchild of Lodovico Antinori, the visionary behind iconic wines such as Ornellaia, together with his brother Piero Antinori and their long‑time associate Michel Rolland. Located in Bibbona, just north of Bolgheri on Tuscany’s coast, the estate was founded in the early 2000s and quickly gained recognition for its refined, Bordeaux‑influenced blends rooted in distinctly Tuscan terroir. Tenuta di Biserno plays an important role in the region’s modern history, pushing the quality of coastal Tuscan wines and expanding the legacy of the so‑called “Super Tuscans.” Insoglio del Cinghiale is their most accessible label, introducing wine lovers to the estate’s style and helping cement its reputation for producing polished, characterful reds that speak clearly of their maritime origins.
