Sorte Antiga is a remarkable single-parcel white wine from Rafael Palacios in Valdeorras, crafted from a tiny 0.23-hectare plot of more than 100-year-old, ungrafted vines. With yields below 500 grams per vine and a production of fewer than 1,000 bottles, it captures the purity, depth, and precision that make Valdeorras one of Spain’s most exciting white-wine regions.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows impressive concentration with a refined, luminous profile. The nose brings together ripe fruit, floral nuances, and a clear mineral edge, while the palate is ultra-focused yet generous, combining saline grip, finesse, and superb balance. Despite partial skin contact and some whole-cluster fermentation, the phenolics remain extremely delicate and well-integrated. The finish is long, layered, and elegant, and the wine has the structure to develop beautifully over time.

Production
The vineyard is farmed biodynamically on a very small single plot in Valdeorras, where old, pre-phylloxera vines rooted in place deliver tiny yields and exceptional intensity. The grapes are spontaneously fermented on the skins, with part of the blend vinified as whole clusters, then matured with minimal intervention in amphora, concrete, and tonneaux to preserve precision and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with complex fish dishes, shellfish, poultry, and refined modern cuisine, but it is also compelling on its own. Serve at 10–12 °C; decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help open the wine if served young.
