Description

The 2023 Estate Pinot Noir from Platt Vineyard captures the cool, Pacific-influenced character of California’s West Sonoma Coast in a precise, site-driven style. Hand-harvested from the estate’s own parcels and crafted with a light touch in the cellar, it’s an elegant Pinot Noir shaped more by terroir than by oak.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, translucent ruby hue, hinting at freshness and finesse rather than power. The nose opens with red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry, layered with floral notes, wild herbs, and a subtle spice. On the palate, it feels cool, sleek, and finely structured, with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a distinct mineral thread that carries through to a long, focused finish. This is a Pinot Noir with plenty of immediate charm, but also the balance and precision to age well over the coming years. Its fresh acidity and understated oak profile suggest it will continue to gain nuance and complexity in bottle.

Production
Platt Vineyard sits on the windy, fog-laced West Sonoma Coast, one of California’s coolest and most expressive Pinot Noir regions. The estate parcels benefit from a long growing season and slow ripening, which help preserve freshness, aromatic detail, and natural acidity. The grapes were hand-picked and carefully sorted before spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, followed by around 12–14 months in French barriques, mostly used, to preserve purity and site expression.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for roast chicken, duck, veal, and mushroom-based dishes, as well as truffle pasta or fine herb-driven cuisine. Serve it slightly chilled, around 14–16°C, and consider decanting for about 20–30 minutes if you want to open up its aromatics and soften the structure.
