Description

The 2023 Laurent Chambolle-Musigny VV is a striking expression of old-vine Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most admired villages. Crafted by Dominique Laurent, the wine combines the depth and intensity of very old vines with his unmistakable signature of lavish oak and meticulous barrel work. It is a beautifully perfumed, finely textured Chambolle that captures both richness and delicacy in the same glass.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Chambolle-Musigny shows a bright, translucent ruby hue typical of top Burgundy Pinot Noir. The nose is immediately captivating, with a haunting perfume of violets, wild strawberries, and subtle spice, unfolding with an almost ethereal elegance. On the palate, the wine is silky and finely layered, with a lifted, graceful texture balanced by concentrated fruit and a refined mineral edge. The old vines bring depth and persistence, while the oak treatment adds structure and dimension without overwhelming the wine’s floral character. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, likely to develop greater nuance and complexity over the next 8-15 years.

Production
Produced in Chambolle-Musigny in Burgundy, this wine comes from very old vines, which naturally yield small quantities of concentrated fruit and a deep sense of place. Burgundy’s cool continental climate and limestone-rich soils help preserve freshness, aromatic precision, and elegance in the Pinot Noir. Harvesting is typically carried out carefully to protect the quality of the fruit, and vinification follows Dominique Laurent’s distinctive approach, including his use of handmade barrels and a high proportion of new oak. This style is designed to enhance texture, aromatic lift, and complexity while giving the wine a powerful yet refined frame.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with dishes that complement its elegance and aromatic complexity, such as roast duck, pigeon, veal, mushroom risotto, or truffle-based dishes. It also works well with gently prepared game birds and aged soft cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 30-60 minutes if drinking young to allow the perfume and texture to open fully.

Producer
Dominique Laurent is one of Burgundy’s most distinctive and widely recognized producers, known for his uncompromising attention to detail and his pioneering use of new oak. His reputation was built on a bold, highly individual style that has made his wines instantly recognizable, especially among collectors of premium Pinot Noir. Laurent has earned a significant place in Burgundy’s modern wine history for bringing craftsmanship and intensity to traditional terroirs.
