Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, pale straw color with a lively, clean appearance. The nose opens with citrus, green apple, and white blossoms, followed by a subtle herbal spice that adds complexity without overpowering the fruit. The palate is taut, energetic, and finely etched, with crisp acidity and a pronounced salty minerality that gives the wine real drive. It finishes long, clear, and mineral-driven, with the 2023 vintage offering good concentration, balance, and moderate alcohol. While already very appealing now, it has the structure to develop further over the next few years.

Production
The wine comes from the Buchertberg in Steiermark, a south-southeast facing vineyard with a long ripening period and soils of calcareous sandstone, silt, and gravel. This terroir is key to the wine’s freshness, saline mineral edge, and focused tension. Grapes are selectively hand-harvested, and fermentation is carried out spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then matured in traditional 300-600 liter wooden casks, allowing the site and variety to express themselves with clarity and depth.

Food & Serving
This Furmint is an excellent match for sushi, shellfish, and grilled fish, where its acidity and mineral backbone complement delicate flavors beautifully. It also works well with herb-forward vegetarian dishes and goat cheese. Serve chilled at around 8-10°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a short period in the glass can help the wine fully open.
