Description

The 2023 Dominio de Pingus PSI Magnum is Peter Sisseck’s pure, expressive take on Ribera del Duero, crafted to showcase old-vine Tempranillo in a fresher, more approachable style than his iconic Pingus and Flor de Pingus. Bottled in magnum, this vintage offers added cellaring potential and a slower, more harmonious evolution in bottle. PSI has become a benchmark for modern Ribera: intense yet refined, deeply rooted in tradition yet made with a contemporary, thoughtful touch.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 PSI displays a deep, vibrant ruby color with a youthful purple rim, signaling its energy and freshness. The nose is lifted and aromatic, with layers of dark cherry, wild blackberry and plum, intertwined with notes of dried herbs, violet, graphite and a gentle hint of spice and cocoa from large-format oak. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied but remarkably graceful, with fine-grained tannins and a lively acidity that keeps the wine bright and drinkable. Flavors of juicy black fruit, red currant and ripe cherry are supported by subtle notes of licorice, fresh earth and a whisper of smoked spice, all wrapped in a silky, balanced texture. The finish is long, precise and refreshing rather than heavy, making this a very food-friendly Ribera. In magnum, the 2023 PSI should drink beautifully in its youth but will also develop more complexity over 8–12 years, gaining tertiary notes of leather, tobacco and truffle.

Production
PSI is sourced mainly from old bush vines of Tinto Fino (the local clone of Tempranillo) grown at altitude on the limestone- and clay-rich soils of Ribera del Duero, many of them in small family plots that Peter Sisseck has helped to preserve. The vineyards are farmed with a strong emphasis on organic and biodynamic principles, focusing on vine health and low yields to capture concentration without excess weight. Grapes are harvested by hand, carefully sorted, and vinified with a gentle touch to avoid over-extraction: fermentation typically takes place in concrete and stainless-steel tanks with controlled temperatures, followed by aging in a mix of concrete, large oak vats and used barrels. This approach emphasizes purity of fruit, finesse and terroir transparency rather than overt oak influence.

Food & Serving
The 2023 PSI Magnum is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with grilled lamb chops, roast pork, Iberico presa, charcuterie, and hard or semi-hard cheeses such as Manchego or aged Gouda. It also works well with mushroom-based dishes, roasted vegetables, and richly seasoned tapas. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. Young bottles will benefit from 45–60 minutes in a decanter to soften the tannins and open up the bouquet, while well-cellared magnums down the line may need a gentler, shorter decant just to remove any sediment.

Producer
Dominio de Pingus was founded in the mid-1990s by Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck and quickly rose to international fame when his first wine, Pingus, was hailed as one of Spain’s most extraordinary reds. Based in Ribera del Duero, the estate helped redefine what the region—and Spanish Tempranillo—could achieve in terms of depth, elegance and longevity. PSI, launched later as a separate project, is Sisseck’s way of supporting local growers, preserving old vineyards and raising overall quality across the appellation, all while producing a more accessible, yet still deeply serious, expression of Ribera. Dominio de Pingus is now considered one of the most influential producers in Spain, with its wines regularly earning top scores from leading critics and collectors worldwide.
