Description
The 2023 Dominio de Pingus Pingus is one of Ribera del Duero’s most sought-after red wines, renowned for its precision, depth, and unmistakable sense of place. Crafted in tiny quantities by one of Spain’s most celebrated estates, it combines power with remarkable finesse, making it a benchmark wine for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Pingus typically shows a deep, intense color that hints at its concentration and structure. The nose is layered and expressive, with dark berries, violets, spice, mineral nuance, and subtle oak adding complexity rather than overshadowing the fruit.
On the palate, it is rich and concentrated yet polished, with ripe black fruit, firm but refined tannins, bright freshness, and a long, savory finish. While already impressive in its youth, it has the balance and structure to age beautifully for many years, gaining even more nuance and elegance over time.
Production
Pingus comes from old-vine parcels in Castilla y León, with a strong focus on low yields and meticulous vineyard work to preserve purity and concentration. The grapes are harvested by hand and sorted with extreme care, then vinified with a restrained, detail-driven approach designed to express the character of the fruit and the region. The result is a wine of exceptional intensity and clarity.
Food & Serving
This is a wine best paired with rich, flavorful dishes such as grilled lamb, beef tenderloin, roast game, or slow-cooked Iberian pork. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for 1-2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to open fully and show its aromatic complexity.
Producer
Dominio de Pingus was founded by Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck and quickly became a cult name in Spanish wine. Based in Ribera del Duero, the estate is admired for its obsessive vineyard selection, tiny production, and pursuit of purity, and it has earned an international reputation as one of Spain’s most iconic producers.
