Description

The 2023 Domaine Latour-Giraud Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières is a refined and expressive white Burgundy from one of Meursault’s most revered premier cru vineyards. This cuvée showcases the house style of Latour-Giraud: powerful yet precise Chardonnay with an emphasis on purity, texture, and terroir. Genevrières has long been celebrated for producing some of the most seductive, silk-textured wines in Meursault, and this vintage continues that tradition with impressive clarity and depth.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières is pale to medium gold with bright, shimmering reflections hinting at its concentration and youth. The nose opens with lifted aromas of white flowers, citrus zest, and crisp pear, gradually evolving toward riper notes of yellow apple, stone fruit, and lemon curd. Subtle layers of toasted hazelnut, fresh butter, and delicate brioche mingle with a chalky, saline minerality and a whisper of vanilla from judicious oak aging. On the palate, this wine is both generous and finely etched. A core of ripe orchard fruit and citrus is framed by vibrant acidity, giving tension and length to the wine’s creamy, almost velvety texture. Flavors of quince, ripe peach, and Meyer lemon are complemented by notes of almond, pastry cream, and wet stone, leading to a long, persistent finish marked by mineral freshness and gentle spice. While already charming in its youth, the 2023 Genevrières has the structure and balance to evolve beautifully over 8–12 years, gaining further complexity and nuance with bottle age.

Production
Sourced from the renowned Genevrières premier cru, one of Meursault’s warm, well-exposed slopes with predominantly limestone and clay-limestone soils, this wine reflects a terroir known for finesse and sensuality. Domaine Latour-Giraud farms its parcels with great care, following meticulous, largely sustainable vineyard practices and restricting yields to maximize concentration and aromatic complexity. Harvest is carried out by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy Chardonnay grapes are selected. In the cellar, the must is gently pressed and fermented in French oak barrels, with a thoughtful proportion of new oak to enhance, rather than mask, the terroir. Extended lees aging with bâtonnage (as the vintage permits) adds texture and depth, while careful élevage preserves the wine’s natural energy and mineral backbone.

Food & Serving
This Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières is a superb match for refined dishes such as butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, sole meunière, or roasted turbot with beurre blanc. It also pairs beautifully with roast chicken, veal in cream sauce, truffle-inflected dishes, and aged Comté or Gruyère. Serve at 10–12°C (50–54°F) to highlight both its freshness and complexity. For optimal expression, open the bottle 30–45 minutes before serving; a brief decant in its youth can help the wine unfurl its layered bouquet and silky texture.

Producer
Domaine Latour-Giraud is a highly respected, family-run estate based in Meursault, with roots in Burgundy that stretch back several generations. Over time, the domaine has earned a reputation as one of the appellation’s benchmarks, particularly for its authoritative and finely crafted white wines from top sites such as Genevrières and other premier crus. The estate is known for its careful vineyard work, low yields, and a winemaking approach that marries tradition with precision, resulting in wines that express both the richness of Meursault and the clarity of its terroirs. Latour-Giraud’s bottlings are regularly sought after by collectors and Burgundy enthusiasts alike, reinforcing the domaine’s status as a key reference point in the Côte de Beaune.
