Description
Domaine Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Blanc Côte des Monts Damnés is a refined expression of one of Sancerre’s most celebrated sites, showing the precision and elegance that have made the estate a benchmark in the Loire. Produced by the Bourgeois family, whose name has been closely tied to Sancerre for generations, it captures both the character of the limestone-rich hillside and the finesse that defines top Sauvignon Blanc from the region.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Sancerre typically shows a pale straw color with green reflections, hinting at its freshness and purity. The nose is lifted and detailed, with notes of citrus, white flowers, green apple, and subtle flinty or mineral tones that reflect the vineyard’s terroir.
On the palate, it is crisp and focused, with bright acidity, a clean, linear texture, and layered flavors of grapefruit, lime zest, pear, and wet stone. The finish is long and precise, with a salty-mineral edge. While delicious now for its energy and clarity, Côte des Monts Damnés also has the structure to develop gracefully over several years.
Production
Côte des Monts Damnés is one of the most prized slopes in Sancerre, with steep hillside vineyards and limestone-clay soils that lend the wine its tension and mineral depth. The fruit is typically harvested by hand to preserve quality, especially on these demanding terraces, and vinification is carried out with care to emphasize freshness, site expression, and balance.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with fresh goat’s cheese, oysters, shellfish, grilled fish, and dishes with herbs or citrus. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and decanting is generally not necessary unless the wine is showing a more reserved youthful character.
Producer
Henri Bourgeois is a respected family producer in Sancerre, known for helping define the style and reputation of the region over several generations. The domaine has built a strong international reputation for its expressive Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Noirs, with a particular emphasis on terroir-driven wines from distinctive vineyard sites such as Côte des Monts Damnés.
