L'Esprit de Chevalier is the second wine of the esteemed Domaine de Chevalier, offering a refined Bordeaux experience with exceptional value and a clear link to one of Pessac-Léognan’s most respected estates. Crafted in the spirit of the grand vin, it brings precision, elegance, and a true sense of place from the Left Bank of Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes
L'Esprit de Chevalier typically shows a deep ruby colour with youthful purple highlights in its early years. The bouquet is expressive and polished, with notes of ripe blackcurrant, cherry, plum, graphite, cedar, and subtle floral and spice nuances. On the palate, it is medium-bodied to full-bodied, with supple tannins, fresh acidity, and a balanced core of dark fruit and savoury complexity. The finish is long and elegant, with enough structure to develop beautifully over several years. While approachable earlier than the grand vin, it also has solid aging potential, especially in strong vintages like 2023.

Production
Produced at Domaine de Chevalier in Pessac-Léognan, the wine benefits from Bordeaux’s gravelly soils, which provide excellent drainage and help encourage concentration and freshness in the grapes. The estate is known for careful parcel selection and meticulous vineyard work, with grapes harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve aromatic purity and balance. Vinification is carried out with precision to retain the estate’s signature elegance, typically involving traditional fermentation and controlled aging in oak barrels to add structure and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck breast, grilled beef, mushroom-based dishes, and hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if opening in its youth to allow the aromas and texture to fully open.
