Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a vibrant ruby color with youthful intensity. The nose is expressive and lifted, with aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, violets, and hints of blackberry, complemented by subtle herbal, mineral, and smoky notes. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and energetic, with bright acidity, fine tannins, and a juicy core of red and dark fruit. There is a lovely balance between fruit purity and savory complexity, giving the wine both charm and structure. While delicious in its youth, it should also gain nuance over the next few years.

Production
Pétalos del Bierzo comes from vineyards in Bierzo, a cool, mountainous area in northwest Spain where old vines and diverse soils help define the region’s character. The wine is sourced from multiple small parcels, many planted on hillside sites with varying exposures and terroirs, contributing freshness, aromatic lift, and mineral detail. Harvesting is typically done by hand, with careful selection before fermentation, followed by a vinification approach designed to preserve fruit purity and regional expression.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast chicken, grilled lamb, mushroom dishes, charcuterie, and tapas such as chorizo or morcilla. Serve at around 15–17°C, and decanting is optional but can help the wine open up if enjoyed young.

Descendientes de J. Palacios was founded by Álvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo Pérez in the 1990s, with a mission to revive and elevate the wines of Bierzo. The estate has become a benchmark producer in the region, especially for its work with Mencía and old-vine vineyards.
